CIRCEO
Grand Tour
The trail is the orange line. Blue lines are alternative trails.
Orange dot is the starting point, blue dots other possible entry points.
Pedemontana Trail
A trail along the beautiful woods in the “Quarto caldo” area (very hot). The Eucaliputs wood, the Cork Oak wood of Baia d’Argento, the planted fields of Mezzomonte, the dense forest on the mountain side, will show you some very wild zones of the Circeo Park, though near residential areas. Furthermore a very fascinating area, due to the archeological sites (see “Archeo” tour).
Length: 5 km - Ascent: 0 meters
Lago di Monaci Trail
The Monaci Lake is almost “invisible” because there are no roads for cars along it. Among cultivated fields there is a cart track from Bufalara to the lake. In every season the lake is populated with lots of migratory birds. It’s a good idea then to go there in small groups and silence. The way back is on the single track on the seafront along the famous sand “dunes”.
Length: 8,3 km - Ascent: 0 meters
Lago di Caprolace
Trail
The Caprolace lake in every season is the goal of lots of kinds of migratory birds. It’s a good idea to go there in small groups and in silence. The trail goes along the lake among cultivated fields. On the way back you will go through a Buffalos farm. You will pass then in the road Diversivo Nocchia, but you can also bike in the seafront road.
Length: 10,3 km - Ascent: 0 meters
Bosco Didattico Trail
From the the headquarter of the Circeo National Park starts a large track going into the forest. After a few meters we turn left to enter the educational trial up to the Molella Church. We will make then a circle through the sandy cultivated fields of Molella to the small beach on the Sabaudia Lake. Through the forest we will then go back to the National Park headquarter. Of course this tour can also be done on the reverse.
Length: 8,8 km - Ascent: 0 meters
Foresta Trail
The Selva di Circe forest is truly a magic place: you will meet foxes, wild boars, deers and you will be surrounded by the plant life of what once was the “Terracina Forest”, three times wider. The 3.300 hectares of forest is one of the widest flat forests of Europe. You will make a circle in the wood reaching three interest points: Lestra Cocuzza (with the old school and museum), Cerasella (injured animals recovery) and the Piscina della Verdesca (water in winter).
Length: 23,5 km - Ascent: 0 meters
Monte Circeo Nord Trail
This is quite a hard trail in the north area of the Circeo Mountain called “Quarto freddo” (very cold). After a visit to the roman aqueduct in Mezzomonte we bike up along the closed road and with the trail path to the Circeo Acropolis on top of the mountain. We have a quick look on the south side of the mountain for an astonishing view on the Ponzian Islands. The way back is with the Peretto Alto trail traversing diagonally the whole mountain to Torre Paola. Then through the woods of the Pedemontana Trail to the starting point.
Length: 15 km - Ascent: 400 meters
Monte Circeo Sud
Trail
This trail runs in the south area of the mountain also called “Quarto caldo” (very hot). From the old village of San Felice we go down to the lighthouse with the trail “strada del sole” (sun trail). You can visit the “Grotta delle Capre”, the lighthouse and the “Batteria” before starting biking up on the “Stelvio” trial, a steep and hard ascent on a rocky track. On top and along the bike up a wonderful panorama on the sea and the Ponzian Islands. A quick visit at the Acropilis and then the descent to the old Village of San Felice, for a visit to its roman and middle-age ruins.
Length: 9,3 km - Ascent: 400 meters
